The hardwood floors you find in any hotel, office or home may look elegant because of the right maintenance and cleaning of hardwood floors. Here are some tips to remember when cleaning hardwood floors.
• A fine bristled broom has to be used whenever you sweep hardwood floors.
• Vacuuming hardwood floors once or twice a week is part of its cleaning procedure. It is better to vacuum with a soft brush attachment to reduce scratching.
• Polyurethaned wooden floors should be wiped using dry damp cloth as extra water seems into its seams and ruin the looks of the floor.
• Water should never be used when cleaning hardwood floors as it wears off its polish. All water spills should be wiped with a soft towel or vacuumed to wipe away the spill and dried completely.
• Wooden floors that are constantly used could have carpet runners with non-skid pads placed on them to protect the floor from wear and tear. However, remember to vacuum even under the rugs and runner as dust may filter through the weave and scratch the wood.
• As heals can cause indentations, it is better to avoid wearing heavy shoes and high heals on hardwood floors.
• To prevent dirt from entering the room from the bottom of footwear, place floor mats at the entrances of the wood floor room.
