does a beautiful job if you are cleaning home carpets which have been reasonably well maintained. but this is not a commercial quality unit by any means. i had to take mine in for repair after doing only 200 sq ft in a commercial application, and the sludge reservoir fills much too quickly and the dirty water intake is much too difficult to clean to use for any serious jobs.

that said, i am planning to keep it around for periodic maintenance, but only because i already have it and destroyed its shipping box. . but please don’t think that if you have a high traffic commercial area and havent had your rugs steamed in a few years that this device, despite having lots of flashy top-of-the-line names, is anywhere near the worth of a real industrial cleaner like those made by Kleenrite, Mytee, etc, which do cost 3x or more.

Basically, you get what you pay for, and this is ultimately a low-capacity piece of plastic junk good for a house or an occasional follow-up cleanup job.

I have placed the order with amazon. com for this cleaner. However no confirmation e-mail, nothing. Well I logged in a few hors later and behold the shipping date was 40 days away (page stated 4-9 days). Called Amazon CS, other than we don’t stock and you have to wait 1-2 month (as late as June 22 to be shipped out, on item placed the order on 20th of April?!) completely unacceptable. All the rep did is suggested canceling order. So I went in the morning and got this cleaner from my local Target (family member works for Target) after tax-$386. 03.
I am happy with the Hoover. . . . . Amazon. com-Fail.
Good ‘ole times when fleebay was a place to shop and amazon didn’t just care to get your CC#. . .

This unit does have very strong suction. Carpet feels dry after one cycle past (wash-rinse-dry-dry). Not sure the exact design of this cleaner’s suction system but it suck so much detergent that carpet seem to be clean at first but it applies so much cleaning solution that carpet feel very dirty the next day. Carpet still feel detergent soaked after a 2nd and 3rd rinse only cycles. Not only it use up a lot, 3 to 4 times more than other machines but it also leave carpet feeling more dirty due to carpet saturated with detergent. This unit also require very frequent empty of dirty water tank, add fresh water and detergent.

I had the old style, Shopvac wet/dry design, Bissell carpet cleaner for many years. That old unit cleaned very well but it also very tiresome to use. The Hoover F7430 cleaned very well for years so I figure this top of the line model would be the ideal choice, even many reviews from Amazon and other sites indicate the inconsistency in quality control of this unit. With the 6 years warrently, it sounds like a good bargain if you can live with soapy carpet.

After returned this unit and replaced with the Hoover F4712, very similar to the F4730, my carpet is clean again.

If this unit has setting to control the amount of detergent applied, I can live with the frequent add and empty clean and dirty water tanks. Until then, you should consider other carpet cleaners.

Great product. It so pays for itself. When you compare a professional service to being able to “do it yourself when you want” this product rocks!

Honestly, I was a little worried about the flimsy construction of this item while assembling it from out of the box. So far nothing’s broken, and it has done a terriffic job on my carpet. I recommend it!
